How To Play Longer Without Cooking Your Phone

June 24, 2026 · Lukas Brenner

The fastest way to ruin a good mobile game is to notice your phone is hot and your battery is at forty percent after half an hour. Over the years I've collected a short list of settings that make almost any game behave better.

First, cap the frame rate. Lots of games default to sixty or higher, and dropping to thirty is barely noticeable in slower genres like strategy or RPG while cutting drain dramatically. Second, turn off unnecessary effects like screen shake and bloom, which look nice for two minutes and drain power forever.

Brightness is the big one nobody thinks about. Auto-brightness often pushes higher than you need indoors. Knock it down manually and you'll feel the difference within a session. If a game has a battery-saver mode buried in its menu, use it.

None of this makes a game look bad. It just stops the phone from screaming for a charger mid-session, which means you actually get to keep playing.
